God of War Director Cory Barlog Confirms Performance Mode Available on PS4 Pro

God of War, News, PS4, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sony Santa Monica

God of War is all the rage right now as we continue to get more news almost every day as we draw closer to the game’s April release.

Recently, another noteworthy nugget of news came straight from God of War’s director Cory Barlog on Twitter where he gave some more details about what PS4 Pro owners can expect from the game’s graphics. Barlog was asked on Twitter by a fan about whether he’d need to upgrade to the PS4 Pro to get the most out of God of War. Barlog responded with this:

In a follow-up question, Barlog confirmed that this performance mode will only be available on the PS4 Pro. He also stated in this same response:

“If you run in 1080 on pro it will use the power normally used to render in 4k to make the game run faster. It looks/moves sooooooo nice.”

That means that even if you own a PS4 Pro but not a 4K TV, you’ll still be able to reap plenty of benefits as the game will run at a higher fps than what is standard. It’s worth noting however that those who are obsessed with games hitting 60fps, it hasn’t been confirmed as of yet that this performance mode will lock the game into that framerate. In fact, as is typical with most other performance modes, it’ll likely be close to 60fps but will fluctuate when needed.

God of War is slated to release in just about three weeks on April 20. Before that time, we’ll surely receive more details on the difference between how the game will run on the standard PS4 compared to that of the PS4 Pro. Until then, feel free to check out a recent trailer for the game showing off combat and another recent TV commercial to hold you over until release.
