Genshin Impact leaks – New release date estimate for The Chasm and Baizhu leaked

According to Sukuna and Genshin Report, The Chasm should be releasing with the second or third Genshin Impact update of 2022. If the current schedule, six week between each update, stays intact until then, it means The Chasm will be added to the game on February 16 or March 30, 2022.

Why everyone is hyped by The Chasm?

The Chasm is an area that reaches deep underground, located west of Liyue Harbor. There are no official screenshots or artwork of it. However, if you actually read the dialogues when playing Genshin Impact, you’ll have already learned quite a bit about the area. Most notably how it has a “completely different” climate than the rest of Liyue. And how it’s a huge source of minerals, but it’s currently sealed off following many mysterious incidents, including miners going mad.

The other reason why everyone is so hyped is because miHoYo always included an in-game map label for The Chasm. Which made all players curious about it. Even though it’s blacked out on the map and inaccessible. Overall, The Chasm seems to be the Dragonspine of Liyue: A pretty big area that isn’t a region of Teyvat in itself, but still really fun to explore, with exclusive gameplay gimmicks.

Regarding Baizhu, we know ever since his first appearance in the Closed Beta Test 3 that he’s a Dendro character. As a side note, seeing his incredibly cool character design, and the fact that he plays a big role in the story, Baizhu is highly likely to be a 5 star character. While Yaoyao, another already officially revealed Dendro character, should be a 4 star.

At least since April 2021, leakers on Chinese message boards started reporting that The Chasm and Dendro are linked together. We don’t know how they’re actually linked though. The most logical explanation is that there are Dendro element based puzzles in The Chasm.

Since then, English leakers such as Sukuna, who are confirmed to have their own sources, have also hinted The Chasm and the Dendro element are linked as well. The rumor claiming that The Chasm is finished but miHoYo is holding it back on purpose to stretch out content is also false:

Lastly, many fans are speculating that Baizhu, as a pharmacist and boss of Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Harbor, uses rare ore found in The Chasm for his medicine. If those theories turn out true, The Chasm would be linked not only gameplay-wise, but story-wise to Baizhu as well. This is possibly what miHoYo hinted at too in the Serenitea Pot unlocking quest with Yanfei:

  • NEW MERCH – Mona is getting a figure she wouldnt be able to afford herself

When the traveler and Yanfei speak to Baizhu about the Smaragdus Jadeite ore, he explains how those without Visions can fall ill or have drastic personality changes if they stay in contact with the ore too long. These are symptoms similar to those described by the miners returning from The Chasm.

Anyways, that’s all we know regarding The Chasm and Dendro characters’ release. If you plan to pull Baizhu, you still have a long time ahead to save Primogems, till February or March 2022. You can also hit me up on Twitter @A_iyane07 to share your own theories with me.

Genshin Impact 2.0 is launching on July 21, and will add the Inazuma region. The game will also finally become cross save between all its platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile, with the future Switch version implied to be cross save too.
