After braving the cold, Fortnite players are now jumping into the tropical warmth of Season 8 which launched today. The new season introduces a new range of features as well as the start of a new Battle Pass.

After I looked into the start of the snowy Season 7  when talks of expanding snow surfaced, I was wrong in thinking that it was just cosmetic changes. As it happens, the entire map ended up covered in snow and new additions such as a hoverboard and Sneaky Snowman came forth.

A volcano has now appeared from out of the ground and the Prisoner has now been freed from the Ice Kings castle and has brought fire and flames to the world. Pirates, Ninjas, and a ship filled with new fighters now fight for treasure and the introduction of Pirate Cannons make fights more explosive.

Legendary loot is available to hunt down and two new locations, Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps are available to explore by using Volcanic Vents to propel players towards them.

For those that took part Fortnite’s 13 free Overtime Challenges during the Share the Love event will be able to claim their free Season 8 Battle Pass. You’ll be able to do this by going to the Battle Pass tab or by upgrading to a Battle Bundle at a discount.

If Fortnite Battle Passes are your thing then you’ll be glad to know that over 100 new exclusive rewards have been added and ready to unlock. The price remains at 950 V-Bucks and players will find a Blackheart, and Hybrid progressive outfits available instantly after purchasing the Battle Pass. New styles for these two outfits can be unlocked by leveling up.

Party Assist is a new feature to arrive to Fortnite allowing players to pick a daily or weekly challenge to complete. These can be completed with friends helping out.

As for Fortnite’s Creative mode, a new Jungle Temple theme has gone live and offers traps and trials so players can create their own adventure games with Jungle Temple Prefab and Pinball Bumpers.

The Save the World portion of Fortnite introduces a new Hero Loadout overhaul allowing customized playstyles with unique perks being available to mix and match. “Choose a Commander, five Support Team members, and one team perk to tailor the way you play.” Additionally, eight new quests have been added with each one unlocking a new Hero for your roster which in turn offers more combos for that customized team.

Fortnite is available for free on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android and features full cross-platform play.
