To the surprise of absolutely no one, Epic Games confirmed today that one of the world’s most popular games, Fortnite, will be heading to PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch later this year.

The reveal comes about in tandem with Epic unveiling Unreal Engine 5, the next leap in the company’s long-running game engine. At launch, Fortnite is planned to still be running on Unreal Engine 4 when it comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X, however. That said, Epic has confirmed that it will be transitioning the title to UE5 over the course of the next year and will then make the transition to the new game engine in 2021.

Again, it’s not a shock whatsoever that this would be Epic’s strategy moving forward with Fortnite. As it stands, the game is already so widely-popular due to how it is available on virtually every platform around, varying from current generation consoles, to PCs, to even mobile devices. To see the game then coming to next-gen platforms isn’t surprising in the slightest and will continue to keep Fortnite relevant well into the future.

Fortnite will be launching day one on Xbox Series X and PS5, so the launch lineup for each platform is now slowly coming into view. The only thing we have left to learn about is when each console will specifically be launching this year, but more information for both PlayStation and Xbox should start coming into view in the next few weeks and months.
