Last week Fortnite got a split-screen feature available for PS4 and Xbox One players. However, the introduction of the feature seemed to provide an issue of some sort, enough to warrant Epic Games to pull it from the game for nearly a week. On December 18 the feature seems to have been reintroduced to the game.
The feature was also shown off through a new trailer that launched on December 19 showing the feature in action as a horizontal split-screen mode. I’m unsure if it can be played with vertical split-screen but it makes sense to have a wider view of the battlefield so I’m just going to shrug here. You can watch the trailer below.
The feature helps players who are fans of couch co-op jump in together on the same screen without the need for a secondary console and is currently only available for Xbox One and PS4 users. Players will need two controllers of course, and it only works for Duos and Squads. The feature is in early stages and plans to be improved upon in the future as noted by the patch notes.
Despite the feature being removed and then fixed again, Epic Games hasn’t disclosed exactly what the problem was and the reason it needed to be removed. I like to imagine it was something to do with breaking paradoxical portals within the game and opened windows to different perspectives.

If you’re into split-screen gaming then this feature can be activated in the Squad Formation area. Fortnite is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
