Ben Brode, the previous director of the smash-hit card game Hearthstone, announced last year that he was departing from Blizzard along with a handful of other developers at the company. Brode and fellow departed dev Hamilton Chu went on to found the studio Second Dinner and have since been toiling away on an unannounced project. As of today, though, we now have a better idea of at least what universe this game will be set in.

As revealed via a new video and blog post on Second Dinner’s website, Brode and the rest of the team announced that they’re currently creating a project associated with Marvel. Additionally, Second Dinner has received a $30 million minority investment from NetEase, which has allowed the team to move into a new office space in Irvine, California. The company is also actively hiring for more team members at the moment.

As for the partnership with Marvel, Head of Marvel Games, Jay Ong, expressed great optimism about working with Second Dinner on this new project. “I’ve worked with Hamilton and Ben for years and they are exactly who we want making Marvel games,” Ong said. “They and the team they’ve assembled at Second Dinner have made some of the greatest games in history. And now, working with the Marvel Games team and playing in the Marvel Universe… It’s going to be Amazing! Or maybe Spectacular! Or Incredible! Or Mighty! Or quite possibly all of the above!”

Brode said in the newly released video that the studio has been working on the Marvel title for about six months at this point in time. Currently, a prototype of the game has been put together and it is able to be playtested. While acknowledging that it’s going to take quite awhile to make, Hamilton Chu went as far to say he thinks it will be “the best game ever made.”

More than anything, the team at Second Dinner seems to be loose and looks like they’re having fun. Even though we likely won’t know for quite some time what they are creating or what platforms it will be for, it’s always exciting to hear that more Marvel video games are in the pipeline.
