When Square Enix released Final Fantasy XV‘s bro-specicfic story DLCs Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto, many were surprised to see that they were fairly stand-alone experiences, that couldn’t be played as a chapter integrated in the game’s main story.
DualShockers had a chat with Game Director Hajime Tabata, and we asked him whether there is a possibility for those stories to be ever integrated within the main storyline as their own chapter, but we hear that there is no such plan at the moment. According to Tabata-san, the game released last year is what is considered “the main story,” while the character DLCs are a supplementary experience.
That being said, Tabata-san also mentioned that the team got a sense of what users want to see as future character DLCs thanks to a survey done in the spring. While they can’t do all of them, they definitely want to look into the possibility of creating character DLCs for the characters that are most highly requested.
We hear that the reason why Tabata-san is at PAX is that he wants to hear feedback from the American fans directly at a planned community gathering, exactly as it happened at a similar event in Cologne during Gamescom. The aim is to get a sense of what the fans would like and what features they desire, and use that feedback on top of the survey results. For example, at the community event in Cologne more backstory for Ardyn was highly requested, and Luna was also named a lot. Ultimately, the fans want to see more story content covering some aspects that weren’t given the spotlight in the main campaign.
Square Enix is continuing to update Final Fantasy XV for both PS4 and Xbox One, and they recently released patch 1.15, and the Assassin’s Festival crossover event ib collaboration with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Episode Ignis is scheduled for release in December.
Yesterday, we also heard a clarification about a possibly teased teased Switch version of the game, and the resolution on Xbox One X.
Final Fantasy XV is currently available for PS4 and Xbox One, while the Windows Edition will release on PC via Steam in early 2018. The Pocket Edition will launch this fall for iOS, Android and Windows 10.
