After originally launching over six years ago in 2013, Square Enix has now confirmed the most recent player totals for the popular MMO.

Announced by Square and Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida via a press release, Final Fantasy XIV has now surpassed 18 million registered players in total. This number is comprised of players across all of the game’s platforms which include PS4, PC, Mac, and even PS3. This announcement also comes just prior to the release of patch 5.2 for FFXIV which will bring with it a variety of new changes. You can read more about these changes coming in the next update over on Square’s website if you’d like.

There’s no doubt whatsoever that Final Fantasy XIV has been one of the biggest success stories of this generation. Initially releasing to dismal reception from fans, the game has drastically turned itself around over the years, starting with the release of A Realm Reborn. 2019 for Final Fantasy XIV has proven to be one of the strongest years for the MMORPG as well, thanks to the release of the expansion Shadowbringers earlier this summer. We thought very highly of the game’s latest expansion, giving it a 9.5/10 in our own review saying, “Final Fantasy XIV has moved into the best place it has ever been.” If you’ve been looking to jump into FFXIV for awhile, now seems like the best time to finally do so.

Considering that Yoshida has previously expressed bringing Final Fantasy XIV to next-gen platforms in due time, it seems as though the game might continue to only grow more in the coming years. No matter what the future holds for Final Fantasy XIV, it seems like it has a very bright road ahead.
