I would normally say that you would have to be living under a rock to not know the effects the deadly COVID-19 virus is currently having on the world but in this instance, maybe under a rock is the safest place to be. To say the impact from the coronavirus has been devastating is an understatement with many jobs and lives lost but even in these trying times, humanity still seems to rise to the occasion in the most positive and wholesome way possible. When a player from the popular online game Final Fantasy XIV passed away due to COVID-19, the entire community came together in unison to pay their respects by hosting a march.

In a world that is currently in lockdown and limiting what you can do, there’s always the vast online world to turn to where capabilities are endless. Final Fantasy XIV players have certainly made the most of this aspect by getting together and marching through the realm to honor a dedicated player who recently passed away. As we can see in the video below, the online characters almost blur into each other due to the sheer number of players participating in the memorial march, leaving almost only their online names hovering by and absolutely no need for any kind of social distancing in this world. At this time I, unfortunately, don’t have any information on who passed away or who organized the march, but I would love to find out and offer them a huge thank you for offering such a hopeful and uplighting thing to do under such tragic circumstances.

In more COVID-19 news, Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida stated that due to the current state of the coronavirus pandemic, future patches for Final Fantasy 14 may be delayed. With Japan still in a phase of an emergency, new updates and content for Final Fantasy 14 for the game will take some time before they can be rolled out. This is due to the delivery of assets between Square’s development teams in East Asia, North America, and Europe, voice recording challenges, development tasks in Tokyo, and current limitations with production and QA teams in a working from home environment.

If you fancy leaving this world behind for a while ( and who could blame you), Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS4 and PC, and you can grab a copy on Amazon. You can also read our dedicated guide on Final Fantasy XIV The Rising.
