Soon after the new Final Fantasy VII related announcements on the State of Play February 2021, director Tetsuya Nomura shared new comments on Twitter regarding Part 2.

Going over the various announcements, Tetsuya Nomura spoke about the PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, titled Intergrade. Morevoer, he added that the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is proceeding smoothly. This is the first development update on the sequel since the start of 2021. Producer Yoshinori Kitase had teased in December 2020 that we should wait a bit longer for more info.

We translated the tweet from Tetsuya Nomura below:

Tetsuya Nomura: “Moving on, we have the introduction trailer for (Final Fantasy VII Remake) Intergrade. It explains in a simple way some of the differences between this and PS4. A more detailed explanation of the differences will be coming soon. This (PS5 version) will be released surprisingly soon. Moreover, the development of the sequel is proceeding smoothly, so please look forward for more information”

Original tweet:

It is reassuring to know that despite the pandemic, the sequel’s development is going smoothly. Hopefully, Square Enix will reveal new information after the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Note that Square Enix stated multiple times in the past the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development. However, we don’t know yet how many sequels there will be. Moreover, please keep in mind that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is a simple placeholder name we’re using. Square Enix did not announce an official title for the sequel yet.

After a very long wait, Final Fantasy VII Remake was finally launched on April 10, 2020, on PS4. Be sure to take a look at our comprehensive review of the title here.
