Square Enix cancelled the Tokyo performances of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Orchestra World Tour, planned for February 12 and 13, 2021, due to the new Covid state of emergency in Japan. Prime minister Suga, after a rising number of cases these past weeks, declared a new state of emergency in early January, lasting at least until February 7, but is highly likely to be extended. Several games, anime, and entertainment related events have already announced their cancellations, mirroring what happened last year. The procedure for tickets refunds can be found here.

Note that Japanese fans of Final Fantasy 7 might still have a chance to experience the concerts. There is still a live-streamed performance planned for February 13, and an Osaka concert planned in April. Square Enix explained it will carefully observe the situation and communicate on the fate of both events at a later date.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Orchestra World Tour was announced back in January 2020, with the first concerts held in Los Angeles in June 2020. The concerts include several orchestrated tracks from the Remake, including the game’s theme song, Hollow, by Nobuo Uematsu.

Events with limited seats such as concerts in Japan regularly use a lottery system. Rather than immediately paying for a ticket, a lottery is held, and only those randomly picked will get the opportunity to buy a ticket. Meaning it’s even sadder when an event gets canceled like that. Needless to say though,  Square Enix is making the right decision, prioritizing everyone’s safety.

Square Enix recently released a new Final Fantasy VII Remake OST, the Original Soundtrack Plus. Square Enix made it public in mid-January that it recently registered trademarks for the Japanese Shinra logo, alongside the names The First Soldier and Ever Crisis. Be sure to read our analysis of the situation, and what could it mean for Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy VII Remake.
