Metal Revolution is an upcoming robot fighting game from NEXT Studios. The team has mixed minimalistic controls with deep gameplay and a “cyberpunk robot” theme to make a fighter that hopes to stand out as something new. Give the new trailer a look below.

Visually, I was immediately reminded of Overwatch. Both games have that exaggerated style that makes you feel like you’re playing a living comic book. Metal Revolution also might call to mind Rising Thunder, the canceled fighter from Radiant Entertainment. In fact, if you were to tell me Metal Revolution was made by ex-Radiant staff, I would not be surprised.

Like Rising Thunder, Metal Revolution brings a simplified control scheme. This could make the game slightly easier to get into; however, the depth for veteran fighting players is absolutely still there. Gameplay is fast-paced and fluid and each character has their own ultimate skill that lets you end your opponent in style.

The game will launch with many of the standard modes fighting fans have come to expect. You’ll have access to ranked play, quick match, arcade mode, and training mode, among others. The devs plan to later release a story mode for each character along with extra skins and stages that can be unlocked with in-game currency or purchased directly.

Fighting fans have already gotten two major titles released this year in Dead or Alive 6 and Mortal Kombat 11. And later this summer we’re getting Samurai Shodown. So, it might easy to overlook Metal Revolution. That said, I’m a fan of minimalistic fighting games, so I’m keeping my eye on this one.

Metal Revolution does not have a release date announced yet, but the team says they will announce it sometime this year. For now, players should keep their eyes on Dualshockers for more.
