You might have missed it as we did in today’s Inside Xbox show, but Bungie was on that screen with tons of other developers and publishers. And before you get excited about anything else sneaking into this story, no, Bungie isn’t returning to the Halo franchise. The giant developer is, however, bringing Destiny 2 into the next console generation, not just onto the Xbox Series X but also the upcoming, hardly detailed PS5.

Announced in a Tweet from Bugine’s account earlier today, the developer was succinct. Xbox’s own twitter responded in kind. And true to form, PlayStation’s account has said nothing.

The move to next-gen for Destiny 2 isn’t completely surprising. The game has already proven it can move easily onto different platforms with its port onto Stadia. Not only that, but mobility to multiple platforms seems to be built into the game. It’s already easy to bring your guardians with you to across consoles or to PC with the game’s cross-save feature, so don’t worry about having to start fresh on your Series X or PS5.

However, the question of how the game will benefit from running on new hardware has been left unanswered so far. Time will only tell if a port to next-gen consoles will also bring updated graphics, higher framerates, and improved resolutions for the massively popular title to run at. For now, it seems like the main benefit that Destiny 2 will have from being on next-gen consoles is availability, which isn’t too shabby either.
