E3 2021 – Will We Finally Get to See Metroid Prime 4?

E3 2021, Metroid, Metroid Prime 4, News, Nintendo, Originals, Switch

If you look at the calendar of undated Switch titles, there are three that spring to mind.

You have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4.

Of those, Breath of the Wild 2 is likely not too far away, Platinum Games has been teasing things on and off for the last year, hopefully Bayonetta, and that just leaves Metroid, which has had near radio silence since it was announced many-a-moon ago.

However, with a big Nintendo Direct due in the coming days, what are the chances we’ll get to see Metroid Prime 4 at E3 2021? Let’s take a look.

Metroid Prime 4 – The Story So Far

Metroid Prime 4 was teased all the way back at E3 2017.

While initially, the game was reportedly due for release in 2018, things kind of went south.

Metroid Prime 4’s development was completely rebooted back in 2019 and the initial team developing the game was removed and replaced by Retro Studios.

Since then, a spate of job listings seem to have suggested the game is still a way off, but Nintendo has kept its lips sealed and information has been non-existent.

Will We See It At E3 2021?

Considering how quiet Nintendo has been and how rabid the Metroid fanbase is for any information, it would seem wild not to. Especially as this year is the original title’s 35th anniversary.

This is backed up by a very recent Walmart Canada listing for a mysterious “Metroid” game.

That said, if the game is still as far away as these job adverts have suggested, Nintendo may choose to keep it away in fear of making the same mistake twice.

However, should Metroid Prime 4 not be at E3 2021, you have to imagine that the heavily rumoured Prime Trilogy Collection will take its place as some way to make things up to wanting fans.
