Dying Light 2 is the Latest Spring 2020 Game to be Delayed

While every year seems to have its fair share of game delays, January 2020 has been particularly brutal in that regard. Big titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Iron Man VR, Marvel’s Avengers and Cyberpunk 2077 have all been pushed back. Now, Dying Light 2 is joining that group of delayed titles.

Techland’s zombie game sounds quite ambitious. Dying Light 2’s choice-based story will actually impact the player’s world, changing which areas will be accessible. On top of that, it will even feature multiplayer like the original. It seems liked an impressively massive open-world game and impressed me when I checked it out at E3 2019. At that event, Square Enix revealed that it was a distribution partner for the game and pegged Dying Light 2 with a Spring 2020 release window. Unfortunately, Techland took to Twitter today to confirm that this is not the plan anymore.

The message is fairly vague on their reasoning for the delay, just giving the typical reasons that the developers “want to deliver exactly what was promised” and “need more development time to fulfill our vision.” You can see the full message below:

This delay is much more nebulous than many recent ones. While those titles I mentioned at the top of the story all had solid release dates and shifted to new ones, Dying Light 2 only ever had a Spring 2020 release window and its delay message does not give a new window or date, only stating that Techland “will have more details to share in the coming months, and will get back to you as soon as we have more information.” Hopefully, Dying Light 2 will still release in 2020.

Currently, we know that Dying Light 2 is releasing for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and you can pre-order it on Amazon. If you want to learn more about the game you can also read our interview with Producer Kornel Jaskula.
