With Battle Royales being the buzzword of 2018, the staff of DualShockers began thinking: why aren’t we doing that for console games? Sure, we have our annual Game of the Year awards and various conference awards. But how about a highly debated, contentious list of the Top 10 essential games for each modern platform. Not only a guide of what first-time buyers need to pick up for each console, but a definitive ranking for where we think games place within the console library.
Welcome to DualShockers Definitives.
Each DualShockers Definitives list is a comprehensive polling of the entire DualShockers team through an anonymous vote — not necessarily of our favorite games, but the ones that we think are must-play essentials for each console. If we were making a time capsule today, these are the 10 games we would be putting in it. Though, not only are we going over the Top 10 games in each modern console, while also sharing our expanded of games that we also voted for.
More importantly, DualShockers Definitives will be a continuing series, with each console’s game library being re-assessed each season. Obviously there are some games that age like a fine wine, while others are a flash in the pan when compared to the larger console gaming library. This way, the list can grow and change with new additions, updates, or considerations. Along the way, you will be able to track the rankings and see how they shift each and every season.
When can you expect the first DualShockers Definitives post? This Wednesday, starting with PS4 (of course); then each following Wednesday we will keep it going until we run out of consoles. Here is the breakdown of the DualShockers Definitives schedule below:
