We have reached the stunning conclusion of the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals and the Japanese player Kazunoko definitely didn’t mess around. With big names including Sonic Fox, Fenritti, Go1, and HookGangGod there were plenty of great matches in the mix.
The first round of matches was full of a lot of upsets, particularly with the American players HookGangGod and Sonic Fox. First off HookGangGod, went off against Dogura. The matches were actually crazy close, basically to the very last pixel at times. Hook just couldn’t clinch it out over Dogura and lost (2-3). He had a second shot in the loser’s bracket, however, he had to face top Japanese player, Fenritti. The matches didn’t last long as Fenritti swept (3-0).

Sonic Fox was probably a top contender coming into the tournament since he won EVO and multiple other tournaments for DBFZ. He was no match for BNBBN (pronounced Bon-Bobon) and was defeated (2-3). Sonic Fox also trekked in losers and even beat Kindevu along the way. However, Sonic Fox too had to face Dogura. And like HookGangGod, Sonic Fox suffered a similar outcome and was defeated (3-1) and walked home with 5th place.
The takeaway from these American defeats, is pretty much Japan was just very prepared for this tournament and played exceptionally. Players like Fenritti, who made a huge impact and went all the way to Grand Finals, defeating players like Dogura and Go1 along the way.
But the real star of the show and the champion of the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals was of course Kazunoko. If you don’t recall, Kazunoko is the man who single-handedly earned four out of the seven possible dragon balls, causing four back-to-back last chance qualifiers yesterday. People may have thought Kazunoko was done there, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Kazunoko dominated the bracket, defeating Go1, Dogura, and Fenritti (multiple times). Though Fenritti almost caught up and stirred a bracket reset in Grand Finals, Kazunoko adjusted and blasted with a 3-1 win.
And with that, Kazunoko rightfully earns the World Champion title and retains his dominance in fighting games once again. What’s more impressive is also the fact that the top four placings were also from Japan as well, putting a real flex on the rest for the world. We’ll just have to see if Japan continues to reign dominant on the second world tour this year.
The win wasn’t the only news to come out of the tournament though. Dragon Ball FighterZ announced their second season of characters, including Jiren, Videl, Broly (Dragon Ball Super), and Gogeta. On top of that, we see a brand new trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z Action RPG.
