Doom Eternal released to critical and commercial success back in March. The game is an excellent step forward for a series that blew expectations out of the water with Doom 2016. And now, the team at Bethesda is out to make your Eternal experience even better. In their first major update, they’ve added new single-player content and several quality of life improvements for both single- and multiplayer. Check out the launch trailer below.

As you can see, the team has done a few things to beef up Doom Eternal‘s singleplayer campaign. Now, when a demon kills you, it’s powered up and transported to someone else’s game. If they’re able to avenge you, they not only get a shower of health and ammo, but they receive bonus XP for in-game events. If you toggle the option on via the menus, you’ll also get to fight off juiced up demons.

The team has also added a new prestige system to your Doom level. Once you hit Doom level 250, you’ll earn an Echelon insignia and reset your level back to one. It’s a nice incentive for players to continue slaying long after the credits roll.

New content isn’t the only thing in this first update. There are tons of quality of life and balance changes coming to consoles and PC. These include helpful changes for the single-player campaign, as well as balance tweaks for Battlemode. Check the official site, if you want to get a look at everything that’s changed.

Doom Eternal is out now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. We’re still early in the year, but it is, without question, an early candidate for the best game of 2020. If you haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, I highly suggest you rectify that soon. After all, that first DLC is on its way soon.
