After a long wait, the glowing portals to Hell reopened today with the launch of Doom Eternal. Bethesda’s latest first-person shooter was an immediate hit critically, and it doesn’t appear to be doing poorly commercially as well. The game hit 105,000 concurrent peak players on Steam on its first day in the wild. For reference, that is more than three times what Doom 2016 ever hit on Steam. If those numbers are similar on other platforms, Doom Eternal is going to be one of the biggest releases for Bethesda in awhile.

Doom Eternal has certainly been a hit with the DualShockers staff. So, the news that it’s hitting massive numbers upon release isn’t that surprising. That said, seeing it blow other recent Bethesda games out of the water so quickly is pretty wild. Of course, some of this likely comes down to most of the world having more time on their hands due to COVID-19. However, the game is exceptional and deserves the success it’s currently enjoying.

With it not even being the weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising if these numbers only continue to grow. And, if things in the world continue as they are, people are going to have even more time at home. What better to blow off some steam than hopping on Steam and giving all the demons of Hell a piece of your mind?

Doom Eternal is out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you’re having trouble with the game’s difficulty, we just put out a handy guide for getting through combat. And, if you really want to know what we think about the game, our reviewers recorded nearly an hour-long discussion about everything you’d want to know about the Doom Slayer. No matter what, make sure you get out and get to slaying.
