Hello, fellow Doom slayers. Brand new updates for Bethesda’s re-releases of Doom (1993) and Doom 2 are now available across all platforms. While updating games that are over 25 years old may seem silly, the new features introduced are quite game-changing.

Arguably the biggest implementation added with the Doom and Doom 2 update is add-on support. A curated list of megawad is now available for you to browse and download for no additional cost. This does include one of the most well known megawads Sigil, which was created by original Doom co-creator John Romero. More add-ons will be coming in the future.

There will also be a plethora of quality-of-life changes made to both Doom (1993) and Doom 2. Namely, 60 FPS support will now be available for both games; originally, the games ran at 35 FPS.

Quick saves have been added, allow you to save the game by simply pressing R/R1/RB (depending on platform) on the pause menu. Similarly, you will also be able to quickly load your last quick save by pressing L/L1/LB on the pause screen.

Lastly, some other implementations, such as Quick Weapon Select, improved Level Select, and added Aspect Ratio and Brightness options are now available on both games. You can check out the full patch notes here.

While I’m not too sure how all the quality-of-life changes will be, it is absolutely brilliant that you can now download megawads on the console versions of Doom and Doom 2. I cannot wait to finally check out Sigil, which in turn will allow me to check out all these changes for myself. Never thought I’d be excited about a new Doom update, but here we are.

The Doom and Doom 2 re-releases are available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch. Android, iOS, and PC. If that just isn’t enough Doom for you, Doom 3 and Doom (2016) are available now for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. I’m sure you will want to catch up on all the Doom lore to prepare for Doom Eternal when it launches on March 20, 2020.
