Disco Elysium’s Full Script is Over a Million Words Long, According to Developer

Disco Elysium, News, Originals, PC, PS4, Xbox One, ZA/UM

Coming from developer ZA/UM, Disco Elysium quickly became one of last year’s indie darlings thanks to its compelling story, intricate RPG gameplay, and especially thanks to its writing, world, and characters. While the game was under the radar for a lot of people, Disco Elysium quickly was cited as one of the most well-written games of the generation, and according to the studio, there was a ton of writing that went into it, just in word count alone.

In response to a fan question on Twitter, developer ZA/UM revealed that the full script for Disco Elysium contains over a million words, which is both a surprising and unsurprising fact in and of itself. Given that it’s such a dialogue-heavy game, it’s not shocking at all that the game’s script would be massive. But surely compared to most other games out there–let alone a movie or book–that is surely an impressive feat.

In terms of other news related to the game, around the time of the game’s launch ZA/UM confirmed that the studio was already at work on developing PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game to be released sometime in 2020. Given that the game is only currently available on PC, the prospects of console versions of the game are sure to help give the game even more exposure to a wider audience, which the game certainly deserves. In addition to the console versions, the game’s soundtrack was also recently released for your listening pleasure, alongside an art book that gives a bit more insight into this truly unique and complex RPG.

Disco Elysium is available now on PC, with the game expected to come to consoles sometime later this year. For more on the game, you can also read our full review from when it launched in October 2019.
