A few weeks ago, a Steamdb page popped up for Beyond: Two Souls, signaling that Quantic Dream’s Willem Dafoe-filled game would soon launch on Valve’s platform. After all, the studio’s games only signed a one-year exclusivity agreement with the Epic Game Store. And now would be around the time that deal is running out. Today, those suspicions were confirmed as Steam pages and demos went live for Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human, and Heavy Rain. Users who were waiting for the games to come to Steam will finally get a chance to dive into the weird minds of David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream.
Before launching on the Epic Game Store, Quantic Dream was working exclusively with Sony. Their games aren’t for everyone, but their ambition has continually attempted to push at the boundaries of what narrative-based games can be. Of course, they don’t always knock it out of the park; however, you have to admire them for continuing to try.
Now, tons more people will have a chance to check the games out. If nothing else, being out on Steam will greatly increase the three game’s visibility in the PC marketplace and set up Quantic Dream for whatever they do next. I know I’ll be paying attention to see what they do now that they’re self-publishing.
Earlier this year, David Cage tweeted about the studio having some “exciting” 2020 news. Are these releases what that tweet was referring to? Or, is the studio speeding up its development cycle going forward? They took five years between Beyond and Detroit. Will their new publishing freedom lead to faster turn around? Only time will tell, but, hopefully, the team has more to announce later this year.
Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human, and Heavy Rain are available now on the Epic Game Store and PS4. Soon, they’ll come to Steam, though we don’t yet have a firm launch date.
