Currently the rampaging bushfires in Australian have wreaked major havoc, so far having claimed over 2000 homes, at least 25 human lives, and over a billion animals. Destiny 2 developers Bungie have decided to lend their support as well through an upcoming fundraiser. In the latest This Week At Bungie post, Foundation manager Christine Edwards made an announcement about how the company would aid in this urgent cause:

We are developing a limited-edition T-shirt fundraising campaign to support both Australia’s firefighting efforts and the country’s animal rescue and conservation efforts. The T-shirt, which comes with an exclusive Destiny 2 “Star Light, Star Bright” emblem redemption code with purchase, will be available for pre-order on the Bungie Store and Bungie Store EU between Thursday, January 16 and Tuesday, February 18 at 9 a.m. Pacific, ending with the weekly reset and the end of Crimson Days. The team is currently hard at work on the T-shirt design and we’ll share a preview early next week.

The first half of all profits generated by these T-shirt sales will be donated to WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization. The other half will be donated to NSW Rural Fire Service, which services the state of New South Wales, where the fires have been especially devastating and are in dire need of containment.

Edwards then states that they will be revealing more details about the campaign in next week’s blog post. Meanwhile check out this piece from CNET if you want to start supporting the efforts to combat the fires.

Not only did the game’s latest expansion, Shadowkeep, end up releasing, but Destiny 2 also launched in a new free-to-play model called New Light in addition to coming to Steam. Despite some server issues throughout the day, it looks as though players on PC were eager to jump into the game for either the first time or the thousandth.

According to GitHypDestiny 2 hit a peak of over 200,000 concurrent players back in October 2019 on PC. More specifically, the game’s height throughout the day nearly hit 219K players at one single point.

Recently on Twitter, Bungie shared a new infographic that detailed the exact offerings of Destiny 2: New Light, which adapts the game to a free-to-play format. New Light will start players out at Power Level 750 (with the ability to level up to max Power), and will provide free seasonal ranks and rewards. On the campaign side of things, New Light will include The Red War (the base campaign of Destiny 2) along with the Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansion campaigns. Destiny 2: New Light will also include access to all Year One Exotic Weapons and Armor, the Crucible, Strikes, Year One Raids (and accompanying weapons and gear), in-game events, and more.
