IzanagiGames, the publisher of Death Come True, announced three days before the game’s launch it’ll have very specific streaming and video rules.

Long story short, it’s strictly prohibited to stream or publish videos of Danganronpa Director Kazutaka Kodaka’s new FMV adventure. You will find some videos of Death Come True on social media though. Those were preemptively approved by IzanagiGames, who allowed certain streamers and YouTubers to do so. It’s also allowed to publish screenshots of Death Come True, but only up to after three time loops in the story.

Personally, I think that makes perfect sense as the idea behind DCT is that it’s both a game and a movie. And streaming most movies is prohibited.  Plus it’s a Japanese game we’re talking about here so it was expected.

Death Come True was also reviewed on Eiga like any Japanese movie would.

Kazutaka Kodaka also said the game can be considered himself “challenging the movie industry”.

At the same time, I believe prohibiting streaming is not a very smart move in 2020, and ultimately, streaming the game will do it more good than prohibiting it. With that said, I couldn’t even begin to comprehend those who’ll probably now proceed to boycott the game for the sole reason they can’t stream it. As I strongly dislike the fact social media now pushes us to share Every Little Thing we do in our lives instead of privileging privacy. I’m still looking forward to the game either way.

Death Come True launches worldwide June 25 on Switch and mobile. Other consoles and PC versions will follow later on.

The Death Come True cast includes:

  • Kanata Hongo, who plays the protagonist, Makoto Karaki.
  • Chiaki Kuriyama, police investigator Akane Sachimura.
  • Yuki Kaji, the unnamed, mysterious hotel receptionist.
  • Win Morisaki, genius police investigator Nozomu Kuji.
  • Chihiro Yamamoto, psychopath girl Nene Kurushima.
  • Jiro Sato, news anchor Kenichi Mino.

The game’s cast, all present during the stage show, shared numerous comments we translated. Be sure to check out our report of the stage show. You can read more on Death Come True with our previous coverage, including trailers and comments from the cast and staff, here, here, here, and here.
