Released this past spring, Days Gone came out of the gate as one of the biggest exclusive titles for the PS4 this year, especially after being in development for several years by developer Bend Studio. The title itself received a bit of a mixed reception at launch, but in the months since it has established itself as a top-selling title for the year, and it appears Bend Studio may have more in store for its post-apocalyptic world down the line.

Speaking in an interview with GamesRadar, Bend Studio’s Chris Reese shared a bit more insight on the studio’s outlook on Days Gone after its release. When asked about the potential to expand on the game’s universe down the line, Reese responded that “it is certainly a passion of ours, and that’s what we’ve always wanted to do.”

Specifically, Reese explained that with Days Gone, “this is a world that we want to keep breathing more life into, and explore many, many different avenues.” However, while there has been no official confirmation just yet on whether or not we’ll see a sequel to Days Gone, Reese stated simply that “we’ll see” if more comes from it afterward.

Last month it was reported that Bend Studio had already entered pre-production on its next project, with a LinkedIn page from an employee of the studio indicating that a new title from Bend was in the beginning stages of development. Though there are no official details just yet on what exactly this new project is, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to guess that a Days Gone sequel could be considered, and that (most likely) this new project will likely wind up being in development for Sony’s next console, the recently-revealed PlayStation 5.

Days Gone itself had some noticeable criticism at its release, but despite that the game has sold quite well for Sony and Bend Studio and gathered a devoted following. Our own Rachael Fiddis happened to review the game quite well back when it released in April, and while it’s rough around the edges in some parts, the potential is there for a sequel to expand on what Bend has established with its post-apocalyptic, Freaker-filled world.

Days Gone is available now exclusively on PS4. If you have yet to experience the game for yourself just yet, you can pick it up right now over on Amazon.
