Phoenix Labs’ take on the Monster Hunter genre, Dauntless, launched earlier this week on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via the Epic Games Store earlier this week and five million players have already jumped into the game.

Dauntless is a free-to-play game and the first that allows true cross-play and cross-progression between all of its available platforms. You’ll be able to access one account on whichever platform you decide to play on, and additionally, voice chat features are enabled between PS4, Xbox One, and PC players. It seems like a small detail but it really is cool to see once you actually get in-game.

Phoenix Labs is porting Dauntless onto the Nintendo Switch and mobile phones, however, no news about either version has been revealed. It’ll also be interesting to find out whether or not those players will be able to link up with the other platforms. The team’s co-founder, Robin Mayne, said that they decided to opt for the Epic Games Store so that they may achieve their vision of having every player be able to connect with one another.

For more on Dauntless, you can check out my review from earlier this week where I gave the game a 9 out of 10. If you’re on the fence about Dauntless or just need something to make the wait for Monster Hunter: World Iceborne a little easier, definitely check the game out as it’s wildly unique when compared to other titles like it.
