RuneHeads, the independent developer behind 2017’s Fall of Light, announced today that it will once again be partnering with publisher 1C Entertainment for it next game: Conglomerate 451. It’s an interesting mix of cyberpunk, first person dungeon crawling, and elements you’d expect to see in an XCOM game, so Conglomerate 451 has definitely made its way onto my radar.

In Conglomerate 451, players control a team of cloned policing agents that players can customize with things like weapons, implants, and cyberlimbs that can completely change how a character plays. In order to unlock and find new enhancements, players must take advantage of their own R&D Department. These features, along with permadeath and procedurally generated levels, are the clearest XCOM influences on Conglomerate 451.

That being said, every mission through Conglomerate City Sector 451 plays out moment to moment a first person grid based dungeon crawler. Engaging in combat engages players in a turn-based VATS like system where they can target individual limbs and weak points on enemies. Enemies can do the same to the player’s agents though and horrible injuries can turn into negative status modifiers that will impact future runs. Hacking is also going to be a major part of the game, and can give players an edge early on in each dungeon.

Conglomerate 451 is poised to hit Steam Early Access “soon”.
