Were you just burned by the decision of Koch Media to bring Metro Exodus to Epic Games Store as a timed exclusive? Don’t worry — CD Projekt Red has no intention of letting that happen to their highly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077. Though people with their finger on even the slightest pulse of the industry wouldn’t have expected that anyway.
CD Projekt Red has been amping up the Cyberpunk 2077 social media game lately, and part of that includes highlighting some impressive fan art from the building community. However, not all replies stay on topic — including a fan of the game who wanted to issue his concerns about the expansive FPS would be coming as an Epic Games Store exclusive:

In a sigh of relief (and perhaps shade), the official account let players know they were going to “pass on that.”

It is always great for a developer to come straight out and confirm something, no matter how obvious it may seem. Why is it obvious though, you may be asking? Well… to start, online game retailer GOG (formerly Good Old Games) is wholly owned by the developer’s parent company, CD Projekt. So yeah, the publisher isn’t going to give a full-on or even timed exclusive to the competing Epic Games Store. It’s equivalent to thinking that Half-Life 3 would come exclusively to EA Origin or Battle.net.
Additionally, you could simply point to the track history of other CD Projekt Red titles. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available across multiple retailers, including GOG, Origin, and Steam. Even more notably, there are no CD Projekt games currently on Epic Games Store.
If you missed out on the controversy that kicked off the conversation, Epic Games Store has been catching hands from the dedicated PC and Steam communities after securing Metro Exodus as a one-year timed exclusive. While publisher Koch Media was the one to make the call, Metro series developer 4A Games has been receiving a majority of the blows — eventually prompting a statement from the company noting that they have no intention to abandon PC players.
Meanwhile, there is plenty to be excited about for Cyberpunk 2077. After the game’s Creative Director left for Blizzard, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the staff has grown to over 60% past what it was for the record-setting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
There is no confirmed release date for the futuristic title, however the developer has let us know it will release “when it’s ready” for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Anyone hoping to pre-order the game and support the developer can already pre-order Cyberpunk 2077 on Amazon.
