Within the past 24-hours, a new report emerged detailing the current working conditions at CD Projekt Red as the studio nears the completion of Cyberpunk 2077. The article, which was published by Bloomberg, purported that those who are employed at CDPR are currently needing to put in mandatory 6-day work weeks in order for the game to hit its planned launch date. In the fallout of the report going public, a key figure at CD Projekt Red has now opted to not shy away from what was detailed and has put out a message of their own.

Adam Badowski, who is the studio head at the company, took to Twitter this morning and posted a statement on his personal account. Badowski didn’t deny anything that was detailed in the report and instead opted to just highlight the fact that those who are putting in extra work on Cyberpunk 2077 down the stretch will be appropriately compensated for doing so. “This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, but everyone is well compensated for every extra hour they put in,” Badowski wrote. He also went on to highlight that 10% of the profit that CDPR generates this year will be directly split up amongst the studio’s employees.

While mainly focusing on the compensation portion of this situation, Badowski also said that the “majority of the team understands that push” that is apparently needed to get Cyberpunk 2077 out the door on time. He also confirmed that the game has also now been submitted for certification, which means that its initial development is now virtually complete.

This is a really nuanced, difficult situation to break down, especially from an outsider’s point of view. While those working at CD Projekt Red shouldn’t be forced to work long hours that might very well burn them out in the long run, I also don’t doubt that many within the studio are passionate enough about this game to put in the additional work to ensure that it launches in the best state possible.

And even though I don’t feel like it’s right to necessarily praise Badowski for what he said here, at least he faced the recent news surrounding the studio head-on, and didn’t sugarcoat what is happening internally.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due out in a little over a month on November 19 and will be releasing on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and will also be compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
