Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2 has only been out for a few mere days but for a lot of fans, the question has already become, “What’s next for Resident Evil?” While it would seem logical for Capcom to continue on with the franchise in a potential Resident Evil 8 following up on the success of 2017’s RE7, some fans seem to be so smitten by the new RE2 remake that now all they want to see is this same treatment for other older games in the series, specifically that of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Well, if that’s what you want to see happen, then Capcom is saying that you need to make your voice heard and let them know. Speaking to Japanese publication Game Watch recently, Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi spoke a bit about the potential of remaking another entry in the series. Hirabayashi said that the reason Capcom decided to specifically remake Resident Evil 2 this time around was that for over 20 years, fans made it well-known that this is what they wanted to see happen.
Essentially, Resident Evil 2 being remade in the first place was because of fan desire. Hirabayashi said that if players liked this RE2 remake, and if what they next want to see is a remake of Resident Evil 3, then they need to once again make their voices heard. This goes for any entry in the series as well and not just that of Resident Evil 3.
Personally, I think RE3 is the entry I’d most like to see if Capcom opts to remake another one of these titles. It’d be nice to have both of the major Raccoon City entries in RE2 and RE3 both redone for modern platforms. That said, I don’t think I could handle a modern iteration of Nemesis, RE3’s iconic antagonist. Mr. X gave me enough nightmares as it is after playing through the Resident Evil 2 remake, and Nemesis is essentially just an amplified version of that character.
While Resident Evil 3 definitely makes the most sense to remake next, I’d also be down for a new version of Code Veronica. I’m also wondering how many years it’ll be until Resident Evil 4 has the potential of receiving this same treatment. While that game in its current form still holds up incredibly well today, seeing a new coat of paint on it would be rad.
