Activision is planning long-term support for Call of Duty: Warzone, the very first free-to-play entry of the series that has already reached 50 million players in a single month.

Speaking to Gamergen, Taylor Kurosaki, narrative director at Infinity Ward, revealed that the team has many plans for Warzone in the years ahead to keep it a fresh ongoing experience for the players. As he describes, Warzone will be a constant through-line to connect all the sub-franchisees of the Call of Duty series. He said:

Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it.

Warzone will be the through-line that connects all of the different various sub-franchisees of Call of Duty. It’s going to be really cool to see how the different sub-franchisees sort of come in and out of focus, but Warzone will be the one constant.

In addition to this, Kurosaki also confirmed that both PS5 and Xbox Series X will be supporting Warzone as soon as they become available.

Launched earlier in March, Warzone experienced a record-breaking release by reaching over 30 million players in 10 days. Featuring a huge map with many different locations and districts, you should survive at all costs to be the last man standing among all the 150 warriors in the game. Unlike most of the Battle Royale games, Warzone won’t eliminate you from the match once you died, giving you a second chance in a 1v1 fight in Gulag to make your way back to the game.

While Infinity Ward is trying to bring more new content to Warzone and Modern Warfare, other teams at Activision are developing the upcoming Call of Duty title which is rumored to be called Call of Duty: Vietnam.
