It’s unprecedented that it’s this late into 2020 and the new Call of Duty hasn’t been announced. Rumors, leaks, and datamines have pointed to it being a gritty reboot of the Black Ops franchise similar to that of last year’s Modern Warfare. More specifically, the game is rumored to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which has possibly been confirmed in the strangest leak ever: a bag of Doritos.

As many fans of the series (and memes surrounding it know), Call of Duty has been partnering with Doritos and Mountain Dew for years, so this leak holds some validity, but we still must classify it as a rumor until Treyarch or Activision confirms. A photo of the Dorito’s bag was sent to TheGamingRevolutuon, and the story was broke by publication Modern Warzone.

While you can see the image below (and it certainly looks real), always take anonymous online leakers with a significant grain of salt:

The Dorito’s promotion is once again for Double XP, as well as a chance to win Double XP for an entire year. The promotion will begin on October 5, 2020. This is not a confirmation of the game’s release but it’s probably a good indication that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will maintain the usual COD release window of October or November.

The promotion on the bag states it will end on January 31, 2021. Each person can redeem a maximum of 160 codes throughout the promotion and will be limited to one hour of Double XP a day, with no more than 40 hours total throughout the promotion. There’s also a link Doritos.com/CallofDuty where you will redeem your codes. This currently directs you to the Doritos home page — but we will keep an eye out for an eventual update.

The second big revelation we can take away from the Doritos bag is that we get our first look at the new “official” Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War logo. We aren’t sure when or where the game will get a proper reveal, but a leak such as this can’t really be ignored, so we can probably expect it soon.

As it stands, all of this is pure speculation — hopeful fans can likely expect the next Call of Duty to release on all current gen systems. In any case, you can catch up on the series by grabbing the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Pro Edition physically on Amazon to help support DualShockers.
