Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout Mode is Free this Month, New Alcatraz Map Arrives on PS4 Tomorrow

To keep up with the litany of free-to-play battle royale games on the market, Activision has opted to now make Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout battle royale mode free for the entirety of April.

Starting tomorrow on April 2, Blackout will be free-to-play across all of Black Ops 4’s platforms on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you still haven’t tried out Call of Duty’s own variation of battle royale for yourself because you haven’t wanted to make the monetary commitment, then now is your chance. The free access portion of Blackout will then wrap up come April 30.

Alongside making Blackout free for all starting tomorrow, a new map is now slated to arrive as well. The mode’s second map called Alcatraz, which is designed after the infamous prison, is set to be released tomorrow for those on PS4. Unlike the currently available map in Blackout, Alcatraz is much smaller in scope which means matches will likely be far shorter but all the more intense. Activision says that Alcatraz will come to other platforms other than just PS4 in the future but as of now has yet to specify when that will be. That said, it will probably be quite soon, so I wouldn’t fret too much if you play on platforms other than PS4.

Below you can check out the reveal trailer for Alcatraz to get a better idea of what the map will look like. Whenever we hear more on when Alcatraz is slated to come to Xbox One and PC platforms, we’ll let you know.
