The New Game+ Expo is well underway, and a whole plethora of new games have already been revealed, including Koji Igarashi’s next game, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. The game, which was revealed during the showcase by Iga himself, has been announced for Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC, however sadly no solid release date has been confirmed as of yet.

The follow up to 2018’s Curse of the Moon, a game that came to fruition thanks to the fact that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night smashed all of its initial Kickstarter stretch Goals within the first 24 hours, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 and its predecessor are 2D side scrolling platformers reminiscent of the NES Castlevania games of old. The game sees you fighting an array of demons as you trawl through a variety of stages that sport “a dark, 8-bit aesthetic”.

Zangatsu the Swordsman makes his return from the original game, accompanied by three new characters, Dominique a spear wielding Excorcist who’s making her way across from Ritual of the Night, Robert a firearms specialist and most bizarrely Hachi, a Corgi that wears magical robot armour and pulverizes its enemies. According to Inti Creates, who were sporting a new 25th anniversary logo, “Each new character adds a variety of gameplay options, abilities, and ways to complete the games’ many stages.”

The original Curse of the Moon was well received both critically and commercially with the game selling over 100,000 copies in its first two weeks, so it’s no surprise developer Inti Creates was keen to get back into it and have knocked up a sequel so quickly, and it will be interesting to see how it compares to the first.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is also available on PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC. You can find our review here.
