Internet historians are nowhere near done with Bloodborne, despite the game coming out nearly half-a-decade ago on the PS4. In a new video, Bloodborne lore-master Lance McDonald has pieced together hidden, unused lines from the Vileblood Queen, potentially exposing a plotline that never came to fruition.

As mentioned above, news comes by way of Souls series dataminer and From Software savant, Lance McDonald — a name that should be easily familiar to those who continue to follow the Bloodborne scene. In the video posted yesterday, McDonald provides a deep-dive look into both the original content for the Vileblood Queen and what was cut:

If you haven’t yet played Bloodborne (what are you doing with yourself?), here is the quick primer of Annalise, the Vileblood Queen. The NPC can be found in Castle Cainhurst after first donning the Crown of Illusions. The Vileblood Queen is the last remaining descendant of the Vilebloods — a regal vampiric family with a tainted bloodline ancestry.

As you can see in the early part of the video, the Vileblood Queen still plays an interesting part in Bloodborne. Sporting a regal tone, the Vileblood Queen does not stand for any disrespect; if you choose not to kneel for her you will face some harsh tones and shade. However, those who do bend the knee are able to swear an oath to the Queen, joining the Cainhurst Vilebloods.

While this is all well and good, previous datamining efforts have shown there are unused dialogue options and — more interestingly — a new voice actress altogether. Piecing it together with files from the Alpha Version of Bloodborne creates new context and a totally different tone to the situation.

Starting at around 1:58, you can see the new dialogue options — worth noting, the Vileblood Queen suddenly sounds more regal and much more demure. This is not only a change in tone, but a change in voice actress — instead of using Jenny Funnell who also voiced Doctor Iosefka, the Vileblood Queen was voiced by Evetta Muradasilova. Muradasilova similarly provided voices for The Plain Doll and Lady Maria of the Astral Tower Clock within Bloodborne.

This switch of voice actress isn’t necessarily only cosmetic — McDonald draws connections between the bloodline and background of the Dolls, the Vileblood Queen, and Cainhurst, so there is a decent amount of speculation to be had on how this all connects.

Regardless, it’s fascinating to see the lengths fan of the games are taking to uncover even the smallest details of the game — including areas, dialogue, and components that went entirely unused.

Outside of this discovery, Bloodborne fans are keeping a bonfire alive for the game by picking apart old data, including finding an unused boss titled Great One Beast or showing similarly cut footage of Father Gascione as a companion NPC. Of course, others are flexing their Bloodborne skills in different ways, including perfect runs of the title’s hardest boss or creating some awesome DIY projects.

Bloodborne is available exclusively on PS4. If you somehow missed the atmospheric Souls-like title, you can still grab it via Amazon.
