Blacksad: Under the Skin is an upcoming narrative-adventure game set in the Blacksad comic book universe. The game tells a completely new story but will feature the film noir style and anthropomorphic animals that are central to the comic. Check out the new story trailer below.

Blacksad follows the exploits of a gumshoe black cat named John Blacksad as he solves a thrilling case in 1950s New York City. The game is being developed by Pendulo Studios and YS Interactive and published by Microids. And the story being told looks appropriately dark.

The game opens with Joe Dunn, the owner of an NYC boxing club, found dead. Bobby Yale, the rising boxing star he trained, has gone missing. And so, when Dunn’s daughter takes over the club, she calls on Blacksad to find out where Yale has gone.

What follows is a tale full of intrigue. As Blacksad, you will engage in a series of investigations. Those use puzzles, quick time events, and multiple-choice dialog to make up the main thrust of the gameplay. You’ll be interacting with more than 30 characters whose relationship with Blacksad can change depending on the choices the player makes.

The developers really seem to have captured the style of the comic, at least in this trailer. The style seems appropriately dark and gritty. The dialog is raspy and gruff. The jazz music is totally on point. If the gameplay delivers, this could turn into a solid game in a vein similar to Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us or Rockstar’s LA Noire.

Blacksad: Under the Skin will be out on September 26, 2019, for Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
