This week has been a spotlight week for Battlefield news. First, EA revealed Battlefield V in an action-packed reveal trailer. Following that up, Larry “Major Nelson” Herb announced that one of that game’s (and developer’s) predecessors, Battlefield 1943, would be coming to both Xbox One Backward Compatibility and the EA Access Vault.

The news comes by way of Twitter, where Major Nelson made the reveal in the swell of Battlefield hype:

Following that, gamers got a quick update that the game was also becoming available on Electronic Arts’ dedicated subscription service, EA Access:

In case you aren’t following, this means that anyone currently subscribed with EA Access should be able to simply log into their Xbox One and play the nearly decade-old game.

For those who don’t remember their historical-based war game history, 1953 was the 2009 iteration of the World War II-based series. Coming after Heroes but before Bad Company 2, the game takes place in the Pacific Theatre (specifically Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima). The game launched as an all-digital title through Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360 and PSN on PS3, mainly because the game consisted of Conquest mode solely.

Also, in case you forgot, the game was also the source of drama all its own. It first started when the PC version was canceled two years after the launch of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, reportedly to focus efforts on Battlefield 3. Following that, EA announced that Battlefield 3 would come packed-in with Battlefield 1943 for pre-orderers on PS3 — another claim that would eventually fall through.

So if you are looking for a way to enjoy an EA DICE-created World War II game, feel free to pop in the Xbox 360 disc into your Xbox One. Additionally, you can subscribe to EA Access on Amazon for $29.99 for a year —  a sound investment if you want to be playing the latest game in the series when it launches in October 2018.
