Canada’s Causal Bit Games is currently working on an upcoming action platformer called Battle Princess Madelyn that deliberately brings back memories of 16-bit titles like Ghouls ‘n Ghosts following an enormously successful Kickstarter campaign.

To further the feeling of its retro gameplay, Battle Princess Madelyn will be receiving an arcade mode, according to the game’s developers. This will see the structure of the levels that were previously available in the game’s story mode rearranged in order to pump up the difficulty. This will also allow for faster and more intense gameplay, as Madelyn uses her signature javelins to fend off all manner of supernatural medieval foes.

Throughout the recently released highlight reel for the game’s arcade mode, we are treated just how old school Battle Princess Madelyn is going to be. She traverses graveyards and villages, consistently being attacked by swarms of undead enemies. The fast-paced nature of the gameplay makes it seem as though this will be a particularly frantic affair, as Madelyn hops over incoming fire, navigates her way across spikes, and battles giant skeleton knights.

Battle Princess Madelyn is booked to land on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, and even Wii U, with Limited Run Games handling physical copies for both PC and PlayStation 4. However, there is no confirmed release date for the game as of yet – in the meantime, you can get a closer look at the game through the recently-released update video below:
