Ahead of the release of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla later this year, the game’s creative director today announced that he will be stepping away from the studio.

Ashraf Ismail, who has previously directed Assassin’s Creed Origins and Black Flag, stated on social media today that he will be removing himself from Ubisoft “to properly deal with the personal issues in my life.” Within recent days, Ismail was accused of infidelity on Twitter which is what clearly seems to be the reason for his leaving of the development team.

“There are hundreds of talented, passionate people striving to build an experience for you that do not deserve to be associated with this” Ismail said of his departure. “I wish them all the best.”

Ismail has joined the likes of others that have been recently accused of various forms of misconduct. Earlier in the week, allegations related to sexual harassment and abuse were levied against Dying Light 2’s narrative designer Chris Avellone. Techland, the developer and publisher of the game, later released a statement saying that they had cut ties with Avellone and that he would no longer be working on the project moving forward.

As for Ismail, it remains to be seen what his future in the video game industry ends up becoming. For now, it seems as though his position at Ubisoft will still be there for him if he chooses to return, but these details are still a bit nebulous at the moment. If any further information ends up coming to light regarding this situation, we will update you.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to release later this year and will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.
