EA and Respawn announced today that the publisher and developer team will soon be spinning up the Apex Legends Global Series. This series of both online and live events will allow PC players to compete for more than $3 million. The first event will launch in early 2020.

The Apex Legends Global Series will operate on a points-based system to decide which players are invited to the four different Majors. Basically, players who meet the minimum requirements on PC will be able to compete in online and select live events. Doing well will see players earning Apex Legends Global Series Points. If you accumulate enough points, you’ll be selected to take part in the various Majors.

The first three Majors feature 100 three-player squads from around the world. The fourth major serves as the grand finale. Only 60 teams will duke it out for their share of $1 million in prize money and the title of Apex Legends Global Series World Champion.

This is an important step for Apex Legends. ESports is a major factor in the success of competitive games. EA and Respawn seem to be putting tons of effort and money into making this tournament series as big as possible. Hopefully, for the community, it catches on in a big way. If the eSports scene for Apex grows, EA and Respawn should be able to throw even more support behind the main game. That makes for a net positive for everyone.

The first Apex Legends Global Series online event will begin on January 25. The first Major takes place in Arlington, Texas from March 13-15. If you have aspirations for being the first World Champion, I would suggest you get to practicing!
