Anthem’s Planned Overhaul Gets a New Progress Update from BioWare

We’ve known for a few months now that BioWare is toiling away on an overhaul of some sorts for last year’s release of Anthem. However, we haven’t heard from BioWare in quite some time when it comes to the changes that are being made on the game. That is, until today, when BioWare decided to finally break that silence.

In a new blog post on BioWare’s website, the Studio Director for the BioWare Austin, Christian Dailey, gave an update on the current development of Anthem. Dailey’s post mostly shed a light on how the studio has been affected by new working conditions that have come about following the COVID-19 pandemic coming about over the past few months. Like many other developers around the world, Dailey says that he has been working from home on Anthem to help combat the spread of the virus.

Speaking about Anthem specifically, Dailey says that the next phase of the game is still in an experimental phase where BioWare is trying out many new ideas that could then be implemented. “The Anthem incubation team has kicked off and we are starting to validate our design hypotheses. Incubation is a term we use internally – it essentially means we are going back and experimenting/prototyping to improve on the areas where we believe we fell short and to leverage everything that you love currently about Anthem,” Dailey explained. “And yes, the team is small but the whole point of this is to take our time and go back to the drawing board. And a small team gives us the agility a larger one can’t afford.”

“We really want this experience to be different for the team and our players, but we know we have some tough challenges to tackle. We want to include you as we go and be open and honest with where we are at and what the expectations are with where we are going,” Dailey said of the current progress on Anthem. “e really want to provide you all the transparency we can because of your passion and interest in Anthem. But, with that comes seeing how the sausage is made – which is not always pretty by the way.”

While communication is a big key of what Dailey stressed is important moving forward with Anthem, he also said that the current work that has been made on the game is quite exciting. “I am not here to over hype anything, but we do believe the changes we are making are the right ones and we hope you think so as well…but you might not and that is cool too,” Dailey said. “It is the constructive criticism and feedback we need – in either direction.”

Dailey didn’t say when the next major update on Anthem would be given, but it doesn’t sound as though the next wait to hear and see more of what the game has in store for the future should take as long. Whenever BioWare does end up showing off more of what Anthem has slated to see arrive in the future, it lines up with what fans have been hoping to see from the title.

Until then, Anthem is still readily available to pick up right now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
