While February has been a month rife with new releases, this week is actually a bit quieter than usual, especially when you consider that both Metro Exodus and Days Gone were supposed to release Friday. That being said, this week was likely avoided by many because it contains one juggernaut of a release: BioWare and EA’s Anthem.

Serving as BioWare’s first new IP since Dragon Age, Anthem is set to change things up from the studio’s typical by being a multiplayer focused sci-fi fantasy shooter. It will definitely be interesting to see if this gamble pays off for them. If Anthem isn’t your cup of tea, today also housed the launched of two Japanese games, Death end re;Quest and Steins;Gate Elite, which may interest you more.

If you are, in fact, interested in picking up any of these three games, consider doing so with the affiliate links below. These help ensure that DualShockers can stay an independent platform for less mainstream news coverage and opinions.

Anthem

It’s suprising to think that Anthem will finally be in everyone’s hands on Friday. We knew BioWare was working on a new IP for some time, though the game was only unveiled at E3 2017. Now after a year and a half of waiting, trailers, and preview events, Anthem is finally starting to roll out into players hands. Its release is also quite interesting as Anthem is very different from anything we’ve seen from BioWare before.

While it’s still an RPG at its very core, Anthem does put a lot more emphasis on things like multiplayer and more action-focused combat than we’re used to seeing from the studio that put itself on the map with games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate, and Dragon Age: Origins. Player are able to explore an open world with Javelins, advanced Iron Man-like suits that also serve as the game’s classes.

Following the mixed reception of Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem is definitely set to be a very important game for BioWare and EA if they want to stay relevant and popular. While you will have to wait a bit longer for DualShockers’ review of the game, those of you who are interested in seeing if BioWare and EA’s gamble pays off can pre-order Anthem as well as its Legion of Dawn Edition via these links:

Death end re;Quest

Death end re;Quest

While Anthem isn’t launching until Friday, Compile Heart and Idea Factory’s Death end re;Quest is available today on PS4. The game follows a fairly novel concept, with the game’s main character trying to save her friend from inside a game they created together. That being said, the game they created starts to become more and more similar to the real world as players explore further.

Due to its premise, Death end;re Quest is able to play around with genre cliches during gameplay, though the game is mainly made up of RPG and visual novel elements. Death end;re Quest also is has multiple endings, which should make it more replayable than some of the developer’s previous RPGs

If you are intrigued by the very meta concept the game is trying to tackle, you can order Death end;re Quest on Amazon. If this game is a system seller for you, a PS4 Pro can also be ordered below:

Steins;Gate Elite

Steins;Gate Elite

Also available today is Steins;Gate Elite from 5pb and Spike Chunsoft. For those who are unaware, this game is actually a visual novel and an a heavily updated version of a 2009 game simply called Steins;Gate. This version of the game is actually fully animated, incorporating footage from a previously release anime adaptation as well as some new scenes from the creators of that anime, White Fox.

As a visual novel game, Steins;Gate Elite is primarily text-based, with players making their way through the game’s interesting story while making decisions at pivotal points to ultimately impact the plot. As I mentioned, some of these scenes are brand new, which should entice those who played the original and make this a lucrative title for those who have never played a game in the Science Adventure series.

If want to try this version of new version of the popular visual novel for yourself, Steins;Gate Elite and its Limited Edition are available today across PS4 and Nintendo Switch on Amazon:

So, there you have it. If you’re looking for something to play this week, Anthem, Death end re;Quest, and Steins;Gate Elite all seem like great options. On the digital side of things, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy will be releasing in Japan while Aragami: Shadow Edition will finally be landing on Nintendo Switch following a delay.

As always, thanks for taking the out of your day to read this and hopefully pick up one of these games. The DualShockers’ crew really appreciates it and we all hope you have a great week!
