The numbers are in for the GfK top ten in physical sales in the UK, and it shows that Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an absolute banger sitting at the top of the charts just above id Software’s Doom Eternal.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has reportedly sold more copies in its first week on sale than the launch sales of all previous Animal Crossing games, which includes the spin-offs too. The game launched on March 20, which was only 3 days ago.

Previously, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which launched in 2013, held the title for the biggest launch in the series, but the 2020 games launch is 3-5 times bigger.

What’s more, it’s the biggest single game launch on the Nintendo Switch since the console launched in 2017. However, GamesIndustry.biz points out that if you combine the sales of Pokémon Sword and Shield together, those games had a bigger first week.

It’s worth reminding that these statistics only take into account the physical UK sales and doesn’t include digital purchases. There were a lot of delivery issues surrounding the arrival of physical copies due to the coronavirus pandemic, with some users admitting to cancelling orders and making the switch to the digital version of the game. Nintendo doesn’t share digital download data externally, but we’ll probably see the company reveal figures at some point.

As for number 2 in the charts, Doom Eternal launch sales have been detailed to be roughly a third smaller than its predecessor Doom. Once again, physical sales are probably impacted by the current pandemic encouraging more users to go digital. Bethesda doesn’t usually share digital download figures so we’ll probably never know how the game sold digitally. However, we do know that the game has seen over 100,000 concurrent users on Steam at one point.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has claimed the third spot on the charts with a 282% sales jump, with FIFA 20 in fourth place. The full list is below.
