As the hours count down, fans of Nintendo’s upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons are growing more excited to jump into a calm world, free from stress and horrible events. However, it appears as if Nintendo is cracking down on trying to stop people from ruining the experience in the long run.
According to the Japanese website patch notes, it confirms that players who may be planning to time travel —which was possible in previous versions of the game by changing the system clock— will not be able to experience events by doing so. The notes explain the situation using the upcoming Easter event as an example. It states that an online connection is required so that when the game is launched, a check is performed to ensure that the console time and date is the same as the details for the events real-life starting time.
The notes clarify that to experience the Easter event, the user also needs to have their Switch account linked to a Nintendo account. And obviously, to perform the system check, the console needs to be connected to the internet. Basically, you won’t be able to experience events unless the real-life time matches the events activity dates and times.
While it doesn’t seem as if players need a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online to experience the event, those who are subscribed to the online service will be able to travel to other islands, save backups, and make use of the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app. The mobile app will allow users to scan QR codes and use a keyboard to make use of the online chat system.
The Easter event itself will be taking place in Animal Crossing: New Horizons from April 1 until April 12, 2020. It’s likely there’s going to be a bunch of themed cosmetic items to arrive on the island. The v1.1 patch has rolled out today.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to launch tomorrow for the Nintendo Switch both physically and digitally. However, some users have received physical copies early and are able to play the game in an offline state.
