Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one of the biggest hits of the year so far and with Nintendo continually updating the game with new features and events it shows no sign of slowing down.

So far we’ve already had the dreaded, and not very well received, Bunny Day, to go along with the introduction of Leif and his plants and June’s wedding festival to name a few. And it doesn’t stop there, as of this afternoon, through the official Animal Crossing Twitter account, Nintendo has announced we’ll be getting not one, but two summer updates, with the first of which due on the 3rd of July.

The tweet, which gained over 100k likes in the first couple of hours, is supported by a video showing what we can come to expect from the first of two updates. First off, diving is making its return from New Leaf, allowing you to foray into the ocean and dive for deep-sea critters, including starfish and sea anemone, which can then be donated to Blathers and shown off in the museum. Pascal the red sea otter is also making his reappearance, popping up when you grab a scallop from your diving escapades and trading them for an item that according to the video “you’ll dig.”

The next screen confirms the items to be a new set of DIY recipes to craft some Mermaid furniture. The final change of the first summer update shows Gulliver being washed ashore again, however this time not in his usual sailor get up but sporting a more pirate-like look and vocabulary. Little else is shared about Gulliver’s changes, however, it’s safe to assume he’ll be treating you to some special furniture as a thank you for your help.

The video ends by stating “But that’s not all…” and confirming that summer update two is going to be available in early August – however, nothing was confirmed about what’s will be coming in this update. Despite teasing us with only half of the information it’s great to see the support Nintendo is continually giving the game, long may it continue.

Keep an eye out as we’ll update you as soon as more information on summer update 2 is available, and while you’re here, why not check out our Animal Crossing: New Horizons review.
