Atlus, Editorials, Featured, Main, NieR: Automata, Originals, PC, Persona 5, PS3, PS4, Sega, Square-Enix, Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami

A few days ago, we asked you to vote for your best waifu and best husbando of 2017, and as always the turnout was great. It always makes me smile when so many of you rally to support even a slightly crazy and tongue-in-cheek initiative like this.

Well over a thousand of you voted for their favorite characters, including many popular choices, but also many that were certainly not mainstream, showing just how diverse the tastes of our readers are. Without further ado, here are the results:

The vote for Best Waifu was insanely close among the two who were deemed by far “best girl” by our readers. Ultimately, YoRHa 2B from NieR: Automata came on top. She managed to leave just a few inches behind our runner-up, Makoto Nijima from Persona 5. Dividing the sexy android and the conflicted Student Council President there were only four votes.

Other honorable mentions who received over twenty votes are (in this order) Futaba Sakura also from Persona 5, Pyra/Homura from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kat from Gravity Rush 2, YoRHa A2 from NieR: Automata, Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Ann Takamaki from Persona 5, Mythra/Hikari from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Moving on to Best Husbando, votes were a lot more spread out among many different candidates. The winners didn’t leave the rest of the pack behind as much as among the waifus, and the difference between first and third was only seven votes.

The crown for Best Husbando goes to Persona 5‘s Hero, or Ren Amamiya as he has just been named for the anime. Runner-up by just a hair is Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami.

We should definitely give a round of applause to Goro Majima, also from Yakuza, who placed only two votes behind Kazuma Kiryu. Interestingly, the sum of the votes for Yakuza‘s duo of protagonists actually beat the grand total for the male cast of Persona 5. Other honorable mentions are YoRHa 9S from NieR: Automata, Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildYusuke Kitagawa and Ryuji Sakamoto from Persona 5, William from NiOh, and B.J. Blazkowicz from Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus.

Our congratulations go to Character Designer Akihiko Yoshida and the “dream team ” Square Enix, PlatinumGames, and Yoko Taro for creating 2B, Character Designer Shigenori Soejima and Atlus for designing Makoto and Ren, and Character Designers Takeo Kimata and Saizo Nagai and Sega for giving us Kazuma Kiryu back in 2005 and today. Of course, we should not forget all the developers involved in the design of the many other characters that proved so popular among you all.

Before I leave you to celebrate in the comments, remember that our votes for Game of the Year 2017 and Most Anticipated Game of 2018 are still open until tonight at 11:59 PM PST.
